And the fenced cities. The remark is made in the 'Speaker's Commentary' that the number of fenced cities in the north were no doubt owing to a determination to protect the northern boundary of Israel by a chain of fortresses.

The word fenced is the same that is rendered strong in , "the strong city Tyre." Chinnereth (see ).
