devotionPsalms 13:1DoubtSilence of God

The Silent Teacher

Does it feel like God is ignoring your prayers? Remember this: The Teacher is always quiet during the test. He hasn't left the room; He's waiting to see your answer.

"How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?" () Imagine you are a student in a classroom. During normal school days, the teacher is talkative. He explains the lesson.

He answers your questions. He helps you along. But then comes The Final Exam . The teacher puts the test on your desk. He walks to the front of the room and sits down. You raise your hand and ask a question.

He says nothing. You look at him for help. He is silent. Does his silence mean he left the room? No. Does his silence mean he hates you? No. The teacher is always silent during the test. This is what it means when God is Silent .

There are seasons where God feels incredibly close. And there are dark seasons where He feels a million miles away. You pray, and it feels like your words just bounce off the ceiling. You are not doing anything wrong.

You are simply taking the test. He is watching to see if you have learned the lesson. Will you trust Him when you can't feel Him? Will you obey His Word when you don't hear His Voice?

Digging Deeper

This is the hard shift from Sight to Faith . The disciple Thomas said, "Unless I see... I will not believe." Jesus said, "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed" (). If God answered every prayer instantly with a booming voice, you wouldn't need faith.

You would just be using a vending machine. His silence creates a deep hunger that noise never could. It forces your roots to dig deeper into the soil to find water. Reflect on this: Are you in a silent season right now?

Do not panic. Assume the Teacher is sitting right there, watching you write your answer. The test will end. But for now: Keep writing. 👣 Take a Step Action: Pray the Hard Prayers. Read Psalm 13 out loud today.

Notice that David complains to God ( "How long?" ) but he ends with trust ( "I will sing the Lord's praise" ). It is okay to be honest about the silence. It is just not okay to walk out of the exam room.
